SUMMER PROGRAMME 2017
JULY
Wednesday, 5th July at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Library of Kondolianika
In conjunction with the Parents’ Association of the Potamos Primary School Kythera
Professor George Dertilis will present a paper in the Greek language titled :
The Tyranny of Ignorance

Saturday 22nd July at 5:30 p.m. – KARAVAS – Walk between Amirialis and Kryoneri
with Prof. Timothy Gregory & Dr. Lita Tzortzopoulou – Gregory. We will visit the Amirialis Research Centre (the headquarters of the archaeological projects of the University of Sydney in Kythera), follow the newly cleared trail and end the day at Astarti Hidden Retreats for a slide presentation.

End of July – Archaeological boat trip to Pavlopetri.
Details will follow once date is finalized.

AUGUST

Friday 4th August – 5:30 p.m. Guided tour of the Ayia Sofia Cave at Milopotamos with
Archaeologist Konstantinos Trimmis
We will visit the cave of Ayia Sofia at Milopotamos where we will also see an unexploited section. We will hear about Ioannis Petrocheilos, who became Greece’s leading speleologist. We will also find out about the archaeology and biology of the cave after which we can proceed to the square of Milopotamos for further drinking and chatting.

Saturday 12th August – 8:00 a.m. Boat trip to Antikythera
An early start from Kapsali for Antikythera with Spyros and his glass bottom boat. We will be met on arrival by archaeologist Aris Tsaravopoulos who will guide us through the island’s excavation site.

SEPTEMBER

Wednesday 6th September – 6:30 p.m. Annual General Meeting at the Municipal Library
We invite you to the Annual General Meeting of our Association which will take place at the Municipal Library at Kondolianika. Your ideas and proposals will be most welcome.

Thursday 14th September – 7:30 p.m. at Skandeia, Palaiopoli
Presentation of the book “KYTHERA Excavations & Studies” by J N Coldstream & G L Huxley
The original edition of this book has long been out of print and is now a collector’s item.
The reprint was edited by Mr. Alex Martin and funded by the Kythera World Heritage Fund and Mr. Nigel McGilchrist. We are privileged in having Professor George Huxley as our Guest of Honour.
