Cooking pots and andirons

Kythera, History and Culture

The Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and Islands organizes cultural activities for adult audiences in cooperation with the Municipality of Kythera and the Friends of Museums of Kythera.

Following the successful event “With clay and with fire” in October 2016, the thematic tours to the Archaeological Museum and the permanent Coat of Arms exhibition July / August 2017, the Department of Educational Programs of the Ephorate is now organizing an event that connects a part of our daily life with history and culture.

«Cooking pots and andirons, kylikes and plates, from the museum to the kitchen»

Nutrition, as a basic element in the development of culture in ancient Greece

Saturday, 26/5/2018 – 11:00 am at the Archaeological Museum of Kythera

What foods did they eat in antiquity? How different or how similar are our eating habits? What did an ancient kitchen look like? How did they set the table at a banquet? Is gastronomy a concept of our own time, or is it not? By examining the exhibits in the Archaeological Museum of Kythera we will discuss nutrition in antiquity and the economic, social and cultural implications of food.

Entrance to the Museum for all participants in the event will be free on that day.

Sunday 27/5/2018 – 11:00 am at the WINDMILL RESORT, Mitata

A group of cooks will experiment with local products (flour, milk, honey, meat, fish and herbs) and will prepare ancient recipes, which we will try at the end of the event.

Wine and ambrosia €5 per adult !!
